Is there History on Skid Row?

RFK in EKY, The Robert F. Kennedy Performance Project , is a series of public conversations and activities centered around the real-time, site-specific intermedia performance that recreated, on September 9th and 10th 2004, Robert Kennedy’s two-day, 200 mile “poverty tour” of southeastern Kentucky in 1968.
An Appalshop project directed by John Malpede.

RON ALLEN poet, playwright and producer of profound and profoundly unsettling events is a major force --- a one man avant guard in Detroit. Ron Allen is an African American Buddhist priest, and a Viet Nam veteran, who has initiated writing workshops in recovery settings throughout Detroit. Allen's most recent play adapts, The Tibetan Book of the Dead, to a contemporary urban America.

Image FRIED POETRY director Ron Allen says: “An addiction is anything that keeps you from expanding and experiencing your deeper self.” “Allen packs a lot of beauty into an hour, and he does so with text that spans the distance between the cracks in the sidewalk and the stars in the cosmos.” Kari Jones, METRO DETROIT (2005)

This work represents the triumph of the human spirit over formidable challenges . The will to survive is the language of transformation and hope. These writers manifest our future and our destiny. Please be open to their testimonies of poetry and conviction. This is the highest wisdom of our communities, an act of love. Not limited to drug and alcohol addiction, FRIED POETRY, explores individual and societal addictions wherever we might find them, including those well known killers addiction to fossil fuels, shopping, and military might.
