Los Angeles Poverty Department is excited to announce that we are on the ballot for a grant opportunity through L.A. REPAIR (Los Angeles Reforms for Equity and Public Acknowledgment of Institutional Racism), L.A.’s first participatory budget pilot program! As we approach the L.A. REPAIR Vote, we’re eager to invite you to be an active participant in shaping the future of our communities.

What is the L.A. REPAIR Vote? From March 15th to April 7th, individuals aged 15 and older living, working, studying, or parenting a student in a REPAIR Zone will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the proposals they want to see implemented in their neighborhoods. Proposals were submitted by nonprofit organizations in response to the ideas heard from the REPAIR Zone community last fall.

VOTE in person on March 20, 11 am – 2 pm in Gladys park (808 E 6th St, LA, CA 90021) at the corner of 6th St. and Gladys Ave.
My Friend’s House Foundation will be serving a free meal in the park for all who come.

Your vote for Los Angeles Poverty Department’s proposal – option D will support hosting free wellness workshops – led by people from Skid Row for people from Skid Row.

  • Creative writing – Tell your story your way and learn from experienced writers.
  • Arts and Crafts – Work with your hands, your body and create what you like.
  • Making Sock Puppets – bringing Comfort & Joy to you and people you give them to.
  • MAST Social Therapy – mutual aid to help people overcome emotional difficulties and deal with trauma and burnout in their community.

Support recurring cultural events for everyone in Skid Row and beyond.

Juneteenth & Bob Marley Day hosted by D.J. Sir Oliver with music, performances & talks by community members, food and fun.

Hire people from Skid Row for good jobs, making our community stronger & beautiful.

  • 10 part-time Skid Row History Museum & Archive docents – community members only!
  • 8 part-time Skid Row History Museum & Archive cooling station hosts – community members only!

3 fulltime positions – community members preferred.

When the days get unbearably hot, we set up a cool place for people to rest and rehydrate!

What is L.A. REPAIR? L.A. REPAIR is a city pilot program designed to empower and uplift underserved neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Through participatory budgeting, community members like you play a crucial role in deciding how to allocate City funds for programs that address local needs and enhance the quality of life.

REPAIR Zones that will be up for voting include South Los Angeles, West Adams – Baldwin Village – Leimert Park, Arleta – Pacoima, Harbor Gateway – Wilmington – Harbor City, Skid Row, and Westlake.
